Note about Covid protocols: We will follow UGA recommendations related to masks while indoors. While we will not require masks, we do encourage masks while inside Tate and begin to gather in the meeting room. Obviously as we eat and sit around tables, we don’t expect those who choose to attend the meeting to wear a mask. Our lunches we serve will be all pre-packaged items.
After more than a year of not meeting in person, we are excited about the opportunity to do so again. The speaker for our first meeting of the academic year will be Dr. Nathan Parker. The title of his presentation is “Faithful Academics in Work and Word.” An abstract of his talk is below.
Nathan and his family moved to Watkinsville in November, 2019 to be the senior pastor at Faith Presbyterian Church. After completing a business degree (Georgia State University) and Masters of Divinity degree (Reformed Theological Seminary) Nathan and his wife moved to England for three years where he was awarded a PhD (Durham University). His thesis focused on the Evangelistic methods of the Puritan John Flavel. Nathan is married to Nicole, and they have three children: Michael (“Mikey”), McEwan (“Mac”), and Marigold.
Abstract: This forum will encourage Christian members of UGA’s university community to be resolute in living out their faith in both work and in word. God strategically places His people in fields throughout society and calls them to not only excel in their work for the good of society, but also to make an impact for Him through the spoken word in those fields. This forum will tap into the theological wisdom of a 17th century British pastor (John Flavel) to assist in the pursuit of being a faithful witness in academia.
