Date: Tuesday, April 28, 2015 (Reading Day)
Time: 8:30-9:30 AM
Location: Tate Reception Hall
Speaker: Dr. Phillip Thompson, Executive Director, Aquinas School of Theology, Emory University
Topic: Christian Pilgrims in an Age of Google
Details:
This talk will do two things. The first is to examine the state of our communications culture. While admitting some positive aspects, it will suggest that there are some dangerous and problematic dimensions, confirmed interestingly enough in recent neuroscience studies, from the tidal waves of instant communication that overwhelm us. Second, using the works of the contemplative, Thomas Merton, as a point of instruction, how do we navigate this tidal wave remaining true to our faith and our highest calling?
A light breakfast of coffee, tea, juice, muffins, and fruit will be served to those who RSVP by Monday, April 27, at noon. Please use the form below.
