The speaker for the first CFF meeting of the semester will be Dr. Carl Baum, Assoc. Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Clemson University. Due to several in his family recently testing positive for COVID, his talk will be delivered via Zoom. HIs topic will be “Building Relationships with Students and Coworkers from Honor-Shame Cultures” (abstract below). While most western cultures tend to have a guilt-innocent worldview, many cultures have worldviews based on honor-shame including the cultures of the Bible. As Christ followers, understanding this will help as we relate to various cultures.
Abstract: Most cultures from around the world, including China and India, predominantly operate from an honor-shame worldview. Historically, the vast majority of cultures have shared this worldview, including the cultures of Bible times. This talk will explain key honor-shame concepts and illustrate how an understanding of this worldview enhances our understanding of the Bible. It will also provide practical tips on how to build friendships and have spiritual conversations with people who share this worldview.
A Zoom link will be sent to everyone who registers to attend by 10 pm, Wednesday, January 12 by filling out the form below.
