September 5, 2019 – Dr. Jana Harmon

Date: Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019

Time: 12:30-1:30

Location: Tate 473

The speaker for the first CFF meeting of the new semester will be Dr. Jana Harmon, Teaching Fellow with the C.S. Lewis Institute in Atlanta. Her topic will be “An Inside Look at Atheists Conversions to Christianity.”

Dr. Harmon will speak on her study of 52 former atheists who converted to Christianity. Considering the academy often reduces religion and faith to mere socio-psychological mechanism, she wanted to see if and what role intellectual belief and spiritual experience played in their religious conversion.  The former atheists she interviewed are from all walks of life but, as a group, they were highly educated (nearly half hold advanced degrees; seven of those PhDs). A few currently work in academics in the fields of theology, philosophy, history, and apologetics. Dr. Harmon recently completed her PhD in Religion and Theology through the University of Birmingham in England.

We will provide a light complimentary lunch to everyone who sends in their RSVP by Wednesday, Sept. 4, by 5 pm. You can RSVP by filling out the form below.
