The first Christian Faculty Forum meeting of the semester will be held next Thursday, September 4th, in Tate 473 from 12:30 to 1:30. Our speaker will be Marianne Glaser, principal lecturer in the Communication Studies department at Clemson University where she has been teaching for over 20 years. Marianne has been connected with the Faculty Commons group at Clemson for many of those years and sought ways to live her faith boldly and appropriately in a public university. She will share with us things she’s learned along the way (abstract below).
A light lunch will be provided to everyone who sends in their RSVP by 5 pm, Wednesday, September 3rd, by filling out the form below. If you plan to attend but don’t need a lunch provided, please RSVP and indicate that as well.
Abstract: As a young faculty member, I was challenged by Faculty Commons to live out my faith in the academy. One of the ways presented to me was to identify myself as a Christian the first day of class. I’ll share how I do that in an appropriate way at a public university. However, I also faced some push back to living out my faith and will discuss how I learned to navigate opposition and the role of other Christian faculty assisting in doing that.
