The speaker for the January CFF meeting will be Professor Randy Beck, UGA Law School Associate Dean for Academic Affairs & Justice Thomas O. Marshall Chair of Constitutional Law. His topic will be “God, Caesar and Taxes: Living at the Intersection of Two Legal Systems.” An abstract of his talk is below.
Abstract: Christians are citizens of the kingdom of God who simultaneously live within the jurisdiction of a human government. Potential tensions, and even dangers, can arise for those subject to two sets of legal obligations imposed by two distinct authorities. Jesus’ response to a challenging question about paying taxes to Caesar offers insight for living faithfully and wisely in a polarized culture.
