The speaker for the November CFF meeting will be Dr. Yohannes Abate, UGA Associate Professor of Physics. A native of Ethiopia, he received his Ph.D. in physics at the U. of Iowa, was a postdoctoral fellow at the U. of California, Berkeley and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and served on faculty at California State, Long Beach and Georgia State before coming to UGA as an associate professor in 2017. Dr. Abate studies the fundamental properties of nanoscale materials to lay the foundation for advanced optical and electronic technologies. His topic will be “The Debate and What is at Stake” (abstract below).
Abstract: It is shamelessly hyped by leading atheists of the day that science is at war with religion, when in fact the conflict is between two worldviews namely, naturalism and theism. In the popular mind, the dominant naturalistic worldview and its claims are believed as if they are equivalent to science and science to rationality. Such assertions create a thick fog on the minds of many workday scientists and the public at large to obscure and confuse the grand claims of Jesus Christ. This talk explores the roles Christian scientists can play in these polarized times to clarify what worldview science supports and illuminate dark corners on contemporary thought due to unconsciously believed metaphysical assumptions.
We will provide a light complimentary lunch to everyone who sends in their RSVP by Wednesday, Nov. 6, by 5 pm. You can RSVP by filling out the form below.
