February 4, 2016 – Dr. Allen Barton

Date: Thursday, February 4, 2016

Time: 12:30 to 1:30 pm

Location: Tate Room 473 (Formerly The Taste of Home Cafe)

Speaker: Dr. Allen Barton – Postdoctoral Research Associate – UGA Center for Family Research

Topic: “Marriage, Gratitude, and the Gospel”

Abstract: In a recently published study, my colleagues and I found spouses’ sense of feeling gratitude and appreciation from their partner was the most consistent predictor of various indicators of marital quality.  Multiple national media outlets (Today Show, USA Today, Science Daily, Huffington Post, and many others) as well as the local media (Athens paper, Columns, UGA Today) picked up this piece, writing about the benefits of gratitude for relationships.  For Christians, how should we think about this study and its findings? Informed by a Christian worldview, what implications are drawn?  And perhaps most importantly, how can our lives as Christians be marked by greater levels of gratitude, whether in a marriage, work, and most importantly, to the Lord?

A light lunch will be provided to all who RSVP using the form below by Wednesday, February 3, at 5:00 pm.
